The Thematic Network Project:
a cultural change in approaching the European jewellery industry and its potential for development

EJTN-GEIE originated from the European Jewellery Thematic Network - Project TNW BET2-0667.

The project involved a thematic network financed under the Brite-EUram Programme, Directorate XII, Research & Development, Fourth Framework l Programme

Activities within the project were carried out in two main areas:

1 - Reports on "State of the Art" and current market situation

The four operational main areas were:

  • Materials - precious metals: gold, silver, platinum, standards and quality

  • Technologies - casting, welding, soldering, investment casting, CAD-CAM

  • Training - technical, communication, innovation, management, quality and safety

  • Design - integration of design and technological developments, CAS, quality and design planning

2 - Technology transfer
  • Inventory of existing educational/training courses and activities.

  • Prioritisation of requirements with regards to courses and technology transfer.

  • Operational proposals

  • Definition of a priority list of new technologies and methods which
    would be adapted to and applied in the jewellery industry.

The work within the project started an updating activity on research projects, mapping, training and education and originated the setting up of a University Degree in Jewellery Science & Technology in Italy.
