KNOW HOW

During more than eight years of activity, EJTN developed competences and know how in several fields related to research and technology:

  • Project Management
  • Knowledge Management
  • Technology Transfer

In order to exploit such expertise, the President office promoted the creation of dedicated task forces, with the mission of offering assistance and services to EJTN members and project partners.

In time, the task forces developed into operative structures that are today in a position to offer the same services also to independent bodies with need of external consulting in the areas.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT: EJTN Project Management Unit

Coordinating the European Virtual Institute for Jewellery Technologies, EJTN GEIE faced the need of structuring in an operative task force the managerial competences acquired in years of activity in the field of European projects. In fact, VI-JET work-programme and business plan included the creation of a specific service for project proposals and coordination. The result is a dedicated Department – Project Management Unit, PMU – created to provide the specific competences needed.

The PMU has been operative since 2002, building on EJTN long standing experience the field of research and in coordinating European, international and national research projects. Its mission is to coordinate projects supporting the jewellery industry stakeholders, as well as projects related to the various areas of interest where EJTN members operate, such as:

  • Materials
  • Technologies
  • IST
  • Socio-Economic
  • Environment
  • Culture & Cultural Heritage
  • Other

Profiting from EJTN GEIE members’ competencies, the PMU is supported by their available scientific and technical know-how and favours their activities.

The staff comprise experts in International Finance, Linguistics, EU Commission procedures and reports directly to the President’s office.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT & TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER:
EJTN Technology Transfer Unit

In 2003, a second operative task force was funded within EJTN to respond to the needs of defining, protecting and managing the knowledge created by EJTN projects’ partners.

The TTU - Technology Transfer Unit – was created in order to answer to the needs of a Knowledge Based Society that requires to expertly and carefully manage the knowledge created and accumulated within a project. The TTU aims at responding to one of the main policy issues recently faced within the European Union: the management, protection and dissemination of the knowledge produced within the European Scientific Community, in particular in the framework of the research project promoted and funded by the European Commission, and the exploitation of such research results.

EJTN TTU focuses on four main activities:

1. Knowledge Management (KM) issues
2. Intellectual Property Right (IPR)
3. Dissemination issues
4. Technology Transfer

The unit provides expert and careful knowledge management for research project results from the stage of the accumulation of the knowledge and its development to the protection of the Knowledge produced individuating best strategies for protection – the tool (patent, design, copyrights etc.) and the span of protection (National, EU, worldwide) – guaranteeing to partners the maximum protection of their Intellectual Property Rights.

Once the knowledge it duly protected, the TTU has the expertise to offer guidance and support for its exploitation, taking into account issues such as the commercial potential. EJTN TTU can offer support for the dissemination and the creation of public awareness around knowledge, through communication strategies dedicated to the Media and through the organization of dedicated seminars and conferences.

TTU has also the capacity to follow-up with Technology Transfer. It has experience in organizing dedicated workshop with the aim to reach the productive sector. Due to its international activity and the variety of partners acquired along the years, the geographic span of its potential activity broadly include the European Union and Access Countries, Mediterranean Partner Countries and Middle East, India and several Asian Counties.

As completion of the process of exploitation of knowledge and according to the strategy formulated by the management, the TTU can serve as channel for its Commercialization, using business development strategy and EJTN widespread contacts with the industrial sector and confidence with public marketing mechanisms – selling, licensing etc..
